Apna Meter Apni Reading lets MEPCO consumers photograph their own meter and submit the reading through PITC’s Power Smart app, so the bill is built on your figure instead of a field reading. Submission is tied to the Reading Date printed on your bill. Missing a month carries no penalty — the meter reader’s entry is simply used instead.

Install the right app first

PITC publishes two apps that both contain Self Reading, and they are not equally reliable.

Power Smart (com.powersmart) covers all DISCOs, has over a million downloads and was last updated on 4 August 2026. MEPCO SMART (com.mepco.smart) is MEPCO-only, updated 5 August 2026, and carries a higher store rating across a smaller review base.

Install Power Smart as your primary. If Self Reading misbehaves there, MEPCO SMART is a genuine fallback rather than a duplicate. Both list Power Information Technology Company as developer — anything else is not official.

Registration is where most people get stuck

Add your connection using the reference number from an old bill, then verify with the OTP sent to your mobile number.

The step competitors skip: if MEPCO’s records for your connection are incomplete, the app blocks Self Reading until you submit occupant details — full name, CNIC number, mobile, email, CNIC images front and back, a property document and a recent bill. Do this in advance, not on reading day, because approval is not instant.

Tenants can register, but the details must match the person the connection is billed to.

Timing decides everything

Find the Reading Date on your last bill. That is the anchor for your submission window; the Self Reading option unlocks around it and closes after.

Two documented realities you should plan around. Users have reported the option appearing only after the reader had already recorded — one case logged a reading taken on 14 July with the option surfacing on 15 July. Others hit a “reading date has passed” error while submitting on the correct morning. PITC responds to these publicly and asks for the reference number by email.

The practical defence: open the app three days before your Reading Date and check daily. Screenshot the confirmation.

Photo rules that actually pass

• Shoot in daylight or with a steady torch, never at an angle.
• The meter serial number and the reading digits must both be in one frame. A close-up of digits alone is a common rejection.
• Wipe the glass. Dust and glare cause more failures than blur.
• Type the digits exactly as displayed — no decimals, no red-dial figures.
• Submitting a false reading is treated as misdeclaration, not a clerical slip.

The priority rule, stated plainly

The Power Division’s position at launch: a reading submitted by the consumer on the designated date is not overridden by a reader’s later entry. Separately, PITC’s comparison logic has been described as accepting the lower of the two figures where both exist.

Both point the same way for you — a timely, accurate submission protects you against an inflated entry. It does not erase units you actually consumed, and it cannot lower a genuine reading.

If you skip a month

Nothing breaks. The meter reader’s reading generates the bill, exactly as before the scheme existed. There is no fine, no deregistration, and your next month’s window opens normally. The only cost is losing your evidence for that cycle.

When your reading is ignored

If the bill still shows the reader’s image despite a successful submission, email your reference number and submission date to developer.pitc@gmail.com. Users have escalated this repeatedly, so keep your confirmation screenshot — it is the only proof that the submission existed.

Then verify the issued bill against your own photo. Always check your MEPCO bill after a self-reading month rather than assuming it was applied.
